Henri Victor WOLVENS (1896-1977) - Lot 33
Henri Victor Wolvens was a Belgian painter, graphic artist and draftsman. Trained at the Academy of Sint-Joost-ten-Node (H. Ottevaere) and Sint-Gillis, active in Ixelles and Uccle (Labor studio 1921-22). First exhibition at Galerie G. Giroux (Brussels, 1925). Travels to Prague, works in France, Houffalize and on the Belgian coast. Expressionist and animist, close to A. Van Dyck, W. Van Overstraeten, A. Dasnoy, he is distinguished by a dynamic technique, thick, colorful layers and the search for light. A recognized painter of seascapes, harbors, beaches and dikes, he also painted portraits, buildings, public institutions, figures, landscapes and still lifes. Member of Compagnons de l'Art, Orientations, Jeune Peinture Belge, Kunst van Heden. Present in museums in Brussels, Antwerp, Ixelles, Ostend, Bruges, Liège.
