Ivan Moisseevich Mamontov was born in 1938 in Mogocha, Chitinskiy region. In 1942, his family went to the Altaian region, where he finished secondary school. In 1958-59, Mamontov worked in the library of the village of Kamyshenskaya in the Rodinskiy district. In 1959-60, he studied at the technical school in Barnaul. From 1960 to 1970, Mamontov worked in an Altaian factory for a lock-smitter as artist-designer. He opened a childrenâ€™s art studio and managed it from 1965 to 1970. From 1970 to 1975, Mamontov studied at the Far-East Institute of the Arts for artists-teachers. Bachantsev was the leader of the workshop. Other teachers were Goncharenko, Doronina and Shebeko. Since 1989, he is a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. Also, he is a member of the International Association of Fine Arts. Since 1967 he has been participating in regional, republican and foreign exhibitions. He received a laureate bonus in 1996, in the name of Ivan Ivanovicha Polzunova.
